N E Wales Junior Cricket League  - Competition Rules – Under 9’s
 
1. Qualification of Players
Players should be under 9 years of age on 1st September of the year preceding the season in question.

2. Playing regulations
The laws of cricket shall apply with the following exceptions:

2.1  The pitch shall be 16 yards in length
2.2  The ball used should be an incrediball or a ball which both coaches are happy to use.
2.3  Each team shall comprise of 8 players
2.4  Each innings shall be of 16 overs duration
2.5  The batting side shall bat in pairs for 4 overs each pair.
2.6  Batsmen shall have unlimited lives but every time they are out 5 runs will be deducted from the total. No batsman who is out for any reason shall face the next ball.
2.7  Each player on the fielding side MUST BOWL with the exception of the wicket keeper
2.8  No player shall bowl more than 3 overs
2.9  Wides and no balls shall count as 2 runs with no extra balls  being bowled in the over.
2.10 Any ball bouncing MORE THAN TWICE ( i.e  Three times or more) OR ROLLING ALONG THE FLOOR should be called no ball.
2.11 Each team shall commence its innings with a total of 200 runs
2.12 The winning team will be the side scoring the highest number of runs after deductions for wickets lost.
2.13 Use of artificial pitches is permissible
2.14 Coaches/ Umpires are allowed to advise during the course of the game.
2.15 No fielders except wicketkeepers shall be allowed to field nearer than 11 yards from the middle stump.  

3. Points system
Games at this level should be played as friendlies with no points at stake and fun and enjoyment being most important.
 
4. Fixture schedule
The decision re. fitness of grounds is the responsibility of the home club and if a game is postponed they should let the opponents know at least ONE HOUR before the scheduled start to avoid unnecessary travel. All fixtures should be played on the scheduled dates and rearrangements will only be allowed if the home club’s ground is unavailable on the particular night. In such circumstances the following will be allowed :

4.1  transfer the fixture to the opponent’s ground or
4.2  play on an alternative day in the same week.  

Clubs at Under 9 level will be allowed to play postponed or abandoned games later in the season if they mutually agree.
 
5. Match results
Each  HOME CLUB MUST IMPUT THE RESULT ON TO THE PLAY CRICKET WEBSITE WITHIN TWO DAYS and give details of any outstanding performances for inclusion in press coverage. This includes POSTPONED OR ABANDONED MATCHES.
Failure to do so may result in a fine for the offending club at the discretion of the Management Committee of the League.
 
6. Safety
Safety of the players must remain a principal concern for all Coaches/ Umpires who should be fully aware of Rules 2 (n) and (o) above. It is the responsibility of all clubs to ensure that safety and protective equipment is provided and worn at all times.
 
7. Disputes
All disputes must be referred in writing to the Committee WITHIN 7 DAYS OF THE INCIDENT. The decision of the committee shall be final.
